PYA History

PYA History

The PYA collaboration was conceived in 2009 and incubated by the Chief Executive Officers and Board Members of our founding partner agencies. Each of the founding partners was determined to prove that by coming together we could serve more at-risk youth, magnify the positive impact on those served, work with youth who have greater needs (those that typically "slip through the cracks"), and achieve economies of scale in the process.

Accordingly, with the approval of each organization's board of directors, PYA was formed in 2011 with an interlocking governance agreement and in 2012 obtained its nonprofit exemption.

The PYA collaboration opened their first site at Roseland Homes, a Dallas Housing Authority Property, in December of 2011. The site included after school programs, mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sister and drug and alcohol prevention programs as well as one-on-one behavior modification sessions provided by Phoenix House.
